Friday October 22nd
Today (after scrambled eggs) we headed out of the hotel for a walk. First we went to the fish market. Because Venice is on the sea, there are a lot of fish. There was an eel. Mom thought it was creepy. I thought it was cool. There were also buckets of real, live crab. We got to pick them up.
After the fish market we walked up and down alleys. At lunch time we went to Caldo Pizza, a pizza place we like. Once we got our pizza, we walked to a little piazza and there was a graduation ceremony. There was a person dancing in a strange costume with people shouting “Dottore. Dottore.” Then we walked again. I was exhausted. One fun thing that we did was to watch a person make masks. Masks are made from molds and then they are decorated. We got to see a mask maker paint masks. Venice is famous for masks. Once a year there is a big celebration called Carnival before Easter where everyone dresses up and wears masks.
